It's All Amy Stewart's Fault!

Yes indeed.

Last month there was a sale on so I went shopping. I'm an avid reader so I was on the look out for some books. And what did I find among other things? A book called "Basilicum en rode rozen" that literally translates as Basil and Red Roses. Doesn't ring a bell? Well, the writer is Amy Stewart and the original title of this book is From the Ground Up. It's a book about a garden, I'm a gardener, 'nuff said!

Bought the book for only 4.50 euros, which was a very good buy as the normal price is 16.35 euros. So I was a happy little camper and with my new book firmly clutched in my hand I went on my merry way home. Little did I know what was in store for me.

Late that night I decided to have a look at the book before I went to sleep. Browse a bit, read the first chapter maybe, something like that. Well, that didn't work out well because I read the book in one go in about 2 1/2 hours flat as I couldn't put it down.

The next morning, a little bleary eyed because of sleep deprivation, I decided to visit Amy's site at www.amystewart.com to see what that was all about. And it went all pear shaped from then on. I found Amy's site, I found Garden Rant, then I found all the links to all these garden blogs and before I knew it, I was hooked. After reading dozens of lovely garden blogs I decided that I wanted one too.

So here I am, spending hours and hours every day on creating my own blog and reading those of others. I get hardly any sleep, have very little time for eating and other such frivolities, I neglect my friends and even worse, my garden, my eyes are burning from staring too long at the computer screen, I'm a mess, a complete and utter wreck and all that because of one little book. Thanks Amy! No, really! :-)

Whan that the month of May
Is comen, and that I here the foules singe,
And that the floures ginnen for to springe,
Farwel my book and my devocioun!

Yolanda Elizabet, thank you for the story of how you unexpectedly ended up as a garden blogger; I didn't expect to be in this world either. I'm glad you decided to start "Bliss".

Where else could you share such lovely photos and so much love of gardening with the world?

That's essentially the story of how I ended up blogging too. I googled "Austin garden blogs," found my way to Zanthan Gardens and Soul of the Garden, and after a few months of reading them I desperately wanted my own garden blog. It took me a bit longer to get up and running, but now blogging occupies much more of my spare time than it should.
