Galanthus Galore

Ah my garden friends, let's pay tribute to the bravest of all flowers, the modest snowdrop.

The snowdrop is one of the first to arrive each year in our gardens and to gladden our hearts with their perfect bells with pretty green markings. And they are such brave souls as they stand firm in frost and wind and snow and rain until the others come to join them.

And the others have come, the cheerful daffodil, the dapper crocus, so tiny and neat, the shy hellebores, who mostly hide their pretty freckled faces, the blossom on the trees.... And they all say the same thing: Spring is here! It has come, at last.

And the arrival of Spring brings a fond farewell to our friend the snowdrop. Thank you for staying sweet snowdrop and brightening up those sombre winter days with your presence. And please come again next year, you will be most welcome dearest snowdrop. Until we meet again!

The Snowdrop

Already now the snowdrop dares appear,
The first pale blossom of th' unripen'd year
As flora's breath, by some transforming power.
Had chang'd an icicle into a flower,
Its name and hue the scentless plant retains,
And Winter lingers in its icy veins.

I also love snowdrops - when they are in bloom spring is not so far away any more.
I really enjoy summer, but I think springtime is the best season, because everthing starts new and gives hope.

Alas, snowdrops can't grow here in Austin [although we can grow Leucojum, the snowflakes] and I miss those sweet little snowdrops!
Yours are in such big, beautiful clumps, Yolanda Elizabet! They must be really happy in your garden.

They are sweet, aren't they? Perfect to start the season off...and yes, so tough! My first ones opened in December and I still have snowdrops blooming...who could ask for more?

(Well, me...I would like big clumps like yours...lol)

Thank you all for your kind comments.

It's fun to see that the big clumps of snowdrops are coveted by many, myself included as they are not mine, alas, but of dear friends of mine.

My friends are absolutely nuts about snowdrops and have many, many varieties. They have snowdrops in flower for a very big part of the year. Makes you see green with envy doesn't it?

They have been gardening for almost 10 years now and started out with very tiny clumps of snowdrops (5 bulbs per clump) and have now ended up with this glorious display.

I wish I could show you all this lovely spring garden for real because pictures don't do it justice.
