Happiness Can Be Bought

in big cardboard boxes stuffed to the gills with garden-y goodness!
They say money can't buy you love, but it certainly can buy happiness and loads of it.
Last Saturday for slightly more than 20 euros I bought these plants for my garden.
Some were put into containers to enhance the enjoyment that is gardening. These plants above not only gladden the eye but the nose as well. I love scented plants and can never ever have enough of them. These little darlings are now comfortably ensconced in my potager on a little table right next to my Victorian greenhouse. So every time I pop in and out of the greenhouse my nose curls with delight and when I sit at the table I'm in danger of getting entirely too frivolous for my own good because the flower-y fragrance goes straight to my head, and in a big way. Who needs cocaine when you can have this? It may be equally addictive, but much better for your health and general well being, wouldn't you agree?
The other plants I popped in my new border to enable the resident gardener to a spot of spirit lifting from practically every room of the house. And some spirit lifting is required today as it's raining. Again!

In other news today: YE is

Sentimental, moi? Pull the other one! I'll have you know that I'm, according to the Jung-Briggs-Meyers typology, a Rationalist Mastermind. There, it's been scientifically proven that I'm a rationalist so it must be true. ;-)
I do hope that you have joined me in the sowing of the seeds of love, and love it is indeed, because what spells love more clearly than making this planet of ours even more beautiful with our environmental friendly gardens and sowing, growing and preparing the food for our loved ones with our own fair(ly mucky) hands?
Sowing the seeds of love is probably the most sensible and loving thing any one of us could ever do.

What an uplifting post YE. Just what I needed today. I can't wait until I can buy some happiness too. I need some color and fragrance. That salad looks good too. I see your kitty thinks the same thing.

Good for you! I used to love buying plants like that. These days though I'm learning more to propagate, so that's good too :)

I was thinking the same thing, EB--money sometimes buys happiness, but dividing plants with friends is an even happier occasion.

I agree! It was an uplifting post! We have a major annual plant sale coming up next month and I can hardly wait to find some goodies.

Hi YE, I will gladly put my money on the table in exchange for the happiness that plants bring. There is nothing I would rather buy. Your spring must be in full swing to have new container plantings outside. We are nearly there, and are experiencing another day of welcome rain. The Japanese maples are showing leaves, one of the great wonders of the world. A happy rainy day to you, my friend. :-)

Firstly, it IS nice to be able to see flower when you look out the windows. Because most of my borders (but not all!) are around my house, I don't always see nice things from inside, but I've been working on that! Secondly, I was surprised a cat didn't end up in the empty cardboard box! Thirdly, is that a Fritillaria meleagris (snake's head fritillary)?? I have one--well as a bulb under earth still. Fourthly, ah TFF--I actually had a big falling out with a close penpal back in the day because she thought they were "too depressing" and that anyone who listened to them must have emotional problems. (She ended up being a politician!)

I always buy that kind of happiness, too! Ah, whatever brings us smiles ...
Especially for plants.

Sorry - deleted comment was mine I messed it up. Maybe that is because when I did that test it turns out I'm an ESFP whatever that is. Not very rational anyway. That food looks scrummy-yumptious!

New plants always put a smile on my face, regardless of if they were free or purchased. The checkered lily is a beauty. Amazing what you can see in nature

Yolanda, I think I may have come out of the same mold as you did. We think alike when it come to do with anything to with gardening, especially large boxes of plants. *chuckle*
My hubby often laments, " I don't know what to get you for your birthday, Christmas etc" my answer is alway " a gift card for the garden center. I would not trust a non gardener to actually buy the plants.
BTW I looked at the map and discovered where you live and where we will be during our trip to the Netherlands, so fay away. Pity, as I would have liked to at least say hello, to a fellow avid gardener.

YE, Of course we gardeners know that money can buy happiness and a nice box of plants! The checkered lily is charming but doesn't like C&L at all...it may be time to try it in the wildflower garden off the porch. I try to have a view out every door and window. Love, love love the myers-brigg and use it with my clients! I am an intuitive feeler....Have a good weekend. gail

That is the most beautiful thought - sowing the seeds of love. I wish we all could do that, and the world would have been so much better to live in.
I guess people need to learn a thing or two from us gardeners:-)

I'm on the train: I really bought peas, sweet peas and mangold (Bright Lights) to sow any time soon. That's all your fault! ; ) Your last post about peas was the ultimate kick I needed I guess. Still haven't found Nepeta cataria though, the girls are getting more and more impatient with me...
I'll let you know how everything went! Your new plants look lovely, I love scented plants too!

Oh, yes, there's nothing quite like buying plants - the rush, the coursing of adrenaline through the veins. And the enjoyment lasts much longer than a moment, as the plants take hold, flourish and delight the senses for weeks to come.

Instant colour and happiness Yolanda :) I have been plant buying tonight - not quite on the same scale - just a couple of plants from the garden club plant sale but I came home with a spring in my step :)

What is that purple flower with the white spots??? It's beautiful!

Well, now you are definitely in your element with spring flowers adding beauty to your surroundings :) A lovely purchase to give happiness to us all! Thanks for dropping by my blog to wish me happy first bloggaversary, too :)

Austin's Zilker Botanical Garden is holding the annual garden festival this weekend, so I'm already in the mood to buy plants, Yolanda Elizabet, but you've given me additional rationalization for the purchase.

You are a Rationalist mastermind, eh? I know a couple of other garden bloggers whose letters match that profile. All extraordinary bloggers.

I watched the Tears for Fears video. A few minutes in, the singer takes a trowel to the lawn and it made me laugh, thinking the 1989 image looked more current than one would have expected just a few months ago. Happy planting those Seeds of Love!

In the next few weeks I shall be doing the same, in the meantime I am concentrating on getting the Pottager organised!!!

Whatw a lovely post, Yolanda. I smiled and smiled at the happy Easter-coloured flowers, and chuckled outright at the rationalization of yourself as a B-M Rationalist. I, on the other hand, am an INFP, ragingly and unapologetically so.

Yolanda, the plants you bought are so beautiful, it's no wonder they bring you happiness. I used to have fritillaria meleagris in my Missouri garden. They always reminded me of fairy plants & were one of my very favorites.
Oh and I love the video, so I might be sentimental, too.

You are right. Money CAN buy happiness. Plant happiness! I've planted those checkered fritillarias for the past two years. The first year, nothing. This year, nothing so far. I love them, but maybe they don't love me?
You got an awful lot of things for 20 euros! Good job!
Love the container combo!

Ha! So when SomeBeans complains that I'mm buying plants again, I can tell him that I'm buying little pockets of happiness for our garden! Your box of goodies looks wonderful - my fritillaries in the garden are just budding and I've noticed that they are starting to spread - hurrah!

Sowing the seeds of Love is a great song and so apt.

I can almost smell those spicy-sweet dianthus! Enjoy, YE! It's an absolutely perfect spring day here and I'm feeling very virtuous because I passed up an opportunity to buy plants. I'll make up for that later this week!

Isn't it comfortable to find this kind of happiness whenever you want to have it? Gardencenters and nurseries are wonderful providers ;-) !!
Enjoy your new plants and be happy!
