Outdoor space, the final frontier

These are the voyages of the Bliss Gardener

Her continuing mission to explore strange new worlds

To seek out new life
and new civilisations

To boldly go where no gardener has gone before

Quite some time ago it struck me that embarking on a journey in space is strangely akin to starting out as a gardener as you never know what will happen next, who you'll meet and what new things you will discover. Thought it might be fun to do a post about it, especially as quite a few of my USA garden blogger friends are Trekkies as I am. I discovered Science Fiction when I was 11 years old and have never stopped reading and watching it since.

Last week I finally got a new computer, a notebook this time. My old desktop pc was so decrepit it had oak cladding and was as fast as very thick molasses. Now I've embarked on a new journey of discovery; how does my new notebook work? In the process I've discovered unknown depths in the use of both my own and the English language. Fortunately you were not there to witness it.

Today is a bit of a special day for me as I am using my new notebook for the very first time to write a post for my Bliss blog and today it's also 3 years ago that I started this blog, which explains the tittle.

Never thought that blogging could/would be so much fun and it would be such a great and fun way to explore new gardening worlds, to seek out new garden friends and encounter strange new media such as blogger and twitter.

Congrats on your 3-year blog anniversary. I always enjoy your fresh approach to posts. Like this stairway through a difficult garden. Wow wouldn't that be quite the climb.

YE, Congrats on three years! I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog since I stumbled upon it almost 2 years ago...Now what's at the bottom of those stairs to entice one to have to climb back up? gail

Congrats on your blog-o-versary. I just had mine, too--I think I started in Dec. 06. But thanks for the smiles with the ST:TNG intro. I used to be SO into that show, and esp. into Capt. Picard (hello!). I was even Dr. Crusher for Halloween one year (in the 90s). Hmmm... will see if I can find the photo... and my very first online ID anywhere was DrBev1701D. :)

Congrats on three years of entertaining and beautiful posts, YE. I look forward to many more!

Happy 3rd blogaversary! I'm one of those Trekkie fans, but not so much of one that I'd insist, in Klingon, that I be called a Trekker. My husband & I still debate which series is the best, original or TNG, and which captain most kicks butt (I vote for Captain Janeway).
It's always a delight to visit Bliss, whether it's beautiful gardens, gorgeous arrangements, cute kitties or adorable pup, your writing and spirit always make me smile.

It didn't take me long to find you, Yolanda Elizabet - you and your blog have been a source of fun and a cause for garden-envy for three whole years. This post does both.

Can't remember if you liked the 2009 Star Trek movie? We enjoyed it in the theater last summer - watched the DVD over the weekend and still have the extras to check out.

Live Long And Prosper!

and have found memories of the poem you once wrote for me.

That stairway was great but so was the whole garden; Portrack House and Garden in Scotland.

* Gail: I've so enjoyed your many comments on my blog, so thanks!
That gorgeous stairway leads to an even more gorgeous garden. Well worth the visit.

*Monica: LOL, I'd love to see that pic. Dr Bev is a good choice BTW, sophisticated and intelligent. And a redhead too. ;-)

* Pam: thanks, glad you stopped by.

I am just wrapping up (my husband hopes) a science fiction reading jag with "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress," by Robert Heinlein. Haven't seen any ST in awhile, except for the newest movie, which even the SF-loathing hubby liked. I am wondering what that bright purply flower in your post is...looked like a foxglove on an acid trip?

* MMD : I vote for captain Janeway too, liked her very much, a kinda Kathryn Hepburn in space but must admit to liking DS9 bestest of all.

BTW It's good to know that I make people smile.

* Annie: true, you were very quick of the mark, the first in fact to comment on Bliss.

* Michelle: thanks and yes that latest ST movie is really very good. I had not expected to enjoy it (new cast) but I did, very much so.

* Melissa: thank you and the same to you too.

Thank you all for popping round and live long and prosper!

Ah DS9 - I'm sure they used to blow their budget every couple of months just to let Odo revert to his natural shape.
The pic of the Scottish garden is fantastic, amazing steps.
Congratulations on your anniversary.

Three years, and to think I've only been bloggin a year. Time does fly! The house with the stairs, I'm assuming those are stairs, well, you would not need to go to they gym if you lived there!!

Although I'm afraid that Star Trek leaves me cold.

Happy blogoversary Yolanda! I concur with your sentiments about blogging - I never could have guessed how life enhancing it would turn out to be! and btw... I love Star Trek too!

Congratulations! (I love Star Trek).
BTW, Yolanda, VP and I are both staying at the Old Country House (www.oldcountryhouse.co.uk). It might be worth emailing them? They're not in the centre of town though, but you might be able to use a minicab.
And the garden is to die for...

Three years already? Oh my, time goes by at warp speed. Happy third blog anniversary ~ and here's to many more delightfully and bliss-full posts. I imagine your new notebook is quite the change from your former computer. I'd have enjoyed being around to hear you and the English language. Hugs to you, Tara and the felines.

Congratulations dear Y.E. It has been quite a journey and I feel proud of the fact that I have been a witness to this journey of yours almost from the beginning.
Thanks to your blog, my mind thinks of you as someone I have known all along, and your culture, though foreign to me, feels very familiar. This is something I never imagined could be possible. Thanks to blogging, here I am, talking to Y.E sitting faraway in Netherlands, reading this comment on her brand new notebook:-)

Happy blogiversary, dear Yolanda! And congrats on your new computer, even if it did exercise your vocab a wee bit.

Add this crazy Canadian to the list of Trekkies...I still love Trouble with Tribbles from the original series, and think Patrick Stewart was way hot as Captain Picard.

And so the trek continues, Yolanda! ;-) The biggest of hugs and congratulations on your third blogaversary. Yours was one of the first blogs I ever read, and it seemed like you were just around the corner rather than on the other side of the ocean as you described your garden. We had so many plants in common! It whas been a treat to learn all about the Bliss team, including certain bucket adventures that included a certain hatted biscuit lover and poetry. Certainly! More good times are ahead for us, it seems, exciting beyond words. :-)

Congratulations Yolanda on your 3rd blog anniversary and may you continue to post many more interesting posts and great pictures of cats, dogs and gardens.

I’ve been blogging since December 2005, but took a few months off last year due to various commitments.

Have fun with your new laptop... making new friends and exploring new places. Marion

Happy Blogiversary, and congrats on the new computer. My grey cat is named Willow too, could be twins.
Your foxglove is very freaky. Didn't know they had that tendency.
