Leading You Down

the garden path. Or up it as the case may be. And a very unusual path it is too. I found it last year in the Botanical Gardens of Wageningen and I have been meaning to blog about it ever since. But you know how it is, there was always something else to blog about, but today I finally managed it. If ever you are in the neighbourhood of Wageningen go visit the Botanical Gardens there as they are very much worth the visit and they're free too.
I spend a jolly old time walking up and down the garden paths in Wageningen and in particular this one. Ever seen a path even remotely like it before? I know I haven't and I also know that I like it very very much as it depicts a subject quite close to my heart, very close in fact. Note to self: watch it, your inner nerd is showing and it isn't pretty!
Have you figured out yet what it all means?

Also to be found in the Botanical Gardens in Wageningen are small fields where they do crop trials. As a proud potager owner I was highly interested in that and frightfully fascinated too. And just for your delectation, and detection skills as well, I've taken the following pic
It depicts the title of one of my favorite novels by an American writer, first published in 1951 when it created quite a stir. Any thoughts on what that title might be?

Gentle reader don't be shy, this is the time to stun us all with your superior knowledge and vast intellect by answering the above questions and, if at all possible, correctly too. You do know how to comment, don't you? I'm waiting with bated breath!

I am anxiously awaiting the answer. I don't know what that path means.

Well, that could have been anything from some strange alien DNA base pairing, like T=A;C=C;T=T to Totally Absurd Cantankerous Creation; Tried and Tested!
I also tried to establish some link with J.K Rowling and Writing, but failed.
The answer to the second question has already been provided by Gail.

I also have no clue about that path. Green Thumb & I think alike, I was also thinking of DNA sequencing, but you've never mentioned it before, so it can't be that.
I was seriously underwhelmed by "Catcher in the Rye." Maybe I was too old when I read it.

Yes, I also thought immediately of DNA bases when I saw those letters, esp since crop trials take place nearby. The botanic garden look intriguing - are you going to share more photos?

it has to be dna because of the double steps and the letters a, c and t are adenine, cytosine and thymine. where's the guanine?

i never liked 'catcher in the rye,' with its whiny protagonist, but i do love the path!

Very creative! I kind of like it, although I wouldn't like it in my own garden.

Happy gardening my potager-friend.

I would hazard a guess, as some of the others have done, that it's Catcher In The Rye...

Interesting post...

Love the new header...so colourful and Autumnal, Yolanda :)

Some kind of a DNA Helix is my guess! Two strands, kinda makes sense. Though I can't imagine what the DNA would create!

After reading the above comments it occurs to me that if it is DNA, it must be the DNA specific to a house cat?
The heads of rye look prettier than I would have imagined. Maybe it helps to be young when you encounter the book - I was in high school and loved it to pieces.

Genetic sequence sounds right. Isn't that wheat though?

Cat with a Garden said...

Well it clearly must be "cat(s)" and "rye", ain't it so? ; )

I believe the path is DNA sequencing, I don't know for what of course. The second picture is The Catcher in the Rye, I'm sure.

Fun blog post today.

I was on the DNA path here, too... but for some reason I couldn't get "Catcher in the Rye." Like Mr. McGregor's Daughter, I was underwhelmed by that book--but I think that in my case, I might have been too young when I read it. Funny how some books have to catch you at just the right time in your life to really capture your heart, no?
