Danish Bliss

Last month we went to stay with my dear friend Maria in Denmark. Denmark is a beautiful country with rolling hills, stunning views, big forests, lots of small villages and harbours, and a wonderfully big countryside.
As a big part of Denmark is island, there are a lot of beautiful beaches about. Here's one (Solrod) where my friend Maria, the Bliss under-gardener and doggies Bambe and Pluto (black) are enjoying a walk along the beach.
Maria and I met through our love for Russian Blue cats. At her home a very pretty Russian Blue by the name of Montana is to be found. Montana is the grand-daughter of my Sam, so I was very happy to see her. In Montana (and many other Ruskies) my wonderful Russian Blue boy Sam lives on.

As always we did about a zillion things during our holiday; there is such a lot to see and do in Denmark. One day we went to the Zoo in Copenhagen.
It's not a very big Zoo as it is situated in a city where space is at a premium.
At the Zoo we met this chap who was taking Santa's reindeer for a walk.

As luck would have it, there were many babies to be found in the Copenhagen Zoo. Here's one cute little baby.
But, as we have found in my previous post, size is relative. ;-) Here's baby again, now with some Danish chaps and chappesses. Not so little after all, this baby elephant.
The Kangaroos had babies too,
and so did the Baboons,
and the Giraffes,
and mama Zebra as well.
But that was not all, to my delight there was this little one too; a baby tiger! Tigers are my favorite big cats.
We spend at least half an hour watching this baby playing with its litter mate. Such fun and they are exactly the same in their behaviour as ordinary (not really the right word to describe a fellow living being of the feline persuasion) kittens, only a tad bigger, that's all.

And there was more, another big kittycat had had some "kittens" too. Aren't they just adorable? And daddy is behaving very responsibly as he is kitty-sitting them. How very "modern daddy" of him, although he looks a bit bored. ;-)
One can never have too many kittens, so here's some more. Adorable doesn't begin to describe them.
But cute though they are, they are not to be found at the Zoo but at Maria's home where we also enjoyed this fluffy little baby.
Well, there were actually 3 of them, 3 Russian Blue boys, newly hatched from the egg as they were only 1 day old when we first met them.

Back to the Zoo where there was a lot more to see.
Hummingbirds! The only way I ever get to see them live is at the Zoo, so this was a real treat! And there was more fluttering about in this giant greenhouse where the hummingbirds live.
It was like a veritable garden of Eden in there, with all the beautiful flowers, birds and butterflies. Speaking of gardens, in Dutch we call the Zoo the Dierentuin = Animal Garden and it looks like they call it that in Denmark too because here's the garden side of it. In the background you can get a glimpse of the tower that we started this little tour around the Copenhagen Zoo with.
There's lots more to show and tell about our stay in Denmark but that will have to wait for another time.

Flowers are food for the soul. Mohammed

How CUTE is that baby giraffe??? And yes, the big cats. I love them, too.

You know, I have no idea of the provenance of my Jilly, but I'd swear she's a Russian Blue. She is so different than any other cat we've ever had, both in appearance and personality. Even in all the various noises she makes. We'll never know, but she sure fits the bill...

Lovely photos, Yolanda Elizabet, as usual!

Pleite!

Thanks so much for posting pictures of Denmark. Some of my ancestors came from there, and I'd love to see it in person one day.

The brilliant blue hummingbird is just stunning! Ours only come in one color - green.

A whole blog entry on baby animals! Now how cute is that? Hard to pick a favourite but it has to be that little ball of grey fluff in your hands!

Herrliche Tierfotos!

groetjes, Marian

Hi Yolanda,
Thank you for visiting my tea and the nice comments. I love the animal pics but those kittens are adorable especially the tiny one. I can remember years ago when I would hold kittens that little when my Missy anne would give birth. There is nothing more adorable than baby kittens. I have enjoyed reading about your trip.

Thank you for this tour of Denmark, Yolanda. When I was 11 or 12 a family friend wrote a book about European travel and her chapters on Denmark made me wish I could see that country - your photos are probably as close as I'll ever get.

In Illinois we were members of Brookfield Zoo and visited quite often. It was technically "Chicago's Zoological Park at Brookfield, Illinois", with extensive plantings and woods areas. Sometimes we looked at the gardens as much as we looked at the animals. My own favorite cats were the leopards.

Now I have the old Danny Kay song about Beautiful, Beautiful Copenhagen running through my mind!
