Garden Fashion 2007

On March the 9th of this year I shocked the garden bloggers world with this post about fashionable footwear for gardening and made a bit of a name for myself as the garden bloggers fashionista. Personally, I was rather surprised that people were not aware of what is out there to brighten even the dullest day for gardeners. I mean, why would anyone in her right mind want to wear this

when there is this, (pretty aren't they? And you can buy a matching pair of wellies for your little girl too)

or this available in the shops. Poppies or sunflowers on your wellies, what's not to like about that?
Much better, don't you think, than those very drab forest green wellies? Or how about these?

Tweed wellies, how very lady Muck, don't you think? But if wellies are not your thing why not go for this
or even this. Just add some colour to your day, and cheer yourself up on even the most dull and gloomy days of the year.
Wooden shoes, sorry, couldn't resist, I'm Dutch, so what did you expect? And no, I do NOT wear those things, never have and never will. I have a reputation as a fashionable gardener to maintain, thankyouverymuch!

Gardening is about having fun, so why not wear fashionable and fun footwear? And why stop there? Don't tell me that there are still female gardeners out there wearing these knee pads

when these are so much prettier. They make you feel very stylish wearing these ones, don't they? Oh and look, a pair of garden gloves sprinkled with flowers, what fun!
And speaking of gloves, what about these foxgloves? Aren't they pretty and colourful?
And you can add some more colour to your gardening day by using these gardening tools. Why go for drab stuff when you can have these instead?
And if you have a little girl that likes to help you in the garden, treat her to something nice to wear like these pretty ladybird gloves and matching hat. You can't start too early with teaching kids that gardening is all about having fun and that it doesn't stop you from looking good as well.
I'll leave you with this last picture for those of you who want to be the most stylish and elegant gardeners of your street, village, city, state/country or, if at all possible, the whole wide gardeners world.

Flowery garden wellies with matching wheel barrow and there's a matching pair for your little girl as well. There, that will leave your fellow gardeners speechless, don't you think? And green with envy, of course!

Happy wheel barrowing!

Et pourtant, on offre des roses.

Riveting stuff!!I wish I could lay my hands err.. feet on them.

What a lot of girly things, are there also fashionable items for the male gardener?

I wish I saw boots like this here since I would have multiple pairs. I want a wheelbarrow in blue ... I'm thinking that the selection of garden apparel is much better there than here. We seem to veer toward the practical and dull, unless it is for kids.

I am longing for a pair of foxgloves ... the only thing is that I wouldn't be able to decide on a colour.

Hi all,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Green Thumb: isn't there anything like this available where you live?

Bert: good point, I haven't found anything fun or fashionable for the male gardener yet.

Kate: it's only these last few years that we have seen these fun things in the shops over here. As for the foxgloves, perhaps you could buy several pairs or get them as a birthday present? They are lovely, aren't they?

Silke: how sad that you have lots of ticks in the garden. I understand that safety is more important than fun. But how nice that you've got orange wellies!!!

En in dat glossy blad over het buitenleven doen we ook de laatste tuinmode. Die kruiwagens met dessin :-D- help ik loop achter!!
Ben al eeuwen op zoek naar Birkenstock binnenzooltjes heb je misschien een tip?

To Kate,
yes, we have some very nice boots over here as well. Not as colorful as the one on this blog, but very nice indeed. You can order by mail your Wellie Boots, from the US company L.L.Bean http://llbean.com.

Take a look, perhaps you'll like them. I have the african violet boots.

cheers Gisela (Toronto)

Oh YE, the pressure! Lol! I think Kate is right. I never see such cute things here. We're all abuzz with those ladybug shoes that Our Little Acre posted about. I'm afraid I have muck boots in dull drab....that's all they came in! I shall have to shame myself at some point and reveal my shoes.

Love the wooden shoes!

Hi all,

Thanks for visiting.

Marleen: strak plan! Die laarzen met bijbehorende kruiwagen kan je vinden bij de Kwantum hallen. ;-)

Gisela: thanks for the info!

GG: I have to admit that when I saw those wellies with matching wheel barrow it just cracked me up. Can you imagine walking through your garden kitted out like that? LOL

Yolanda Elizabet... you knew I would find this post and would not be able to resist commenting. How about... "Lovely to look at, pretty to wear, but in the garden, I'm afraid they'd tear!"

Yes, I made that up. You can tell, can't you?

Funny post!

hi Yolanda, they are sold in Germany as well, but I still have a pair of blue boots which seem to hold out forever and serve a double purpose. They are for the beach when we go up north in the fall.:-) The wheel barrels are nice. I have not seen any with print in my neck of the woods. Have a nice day.

Welcome to Bliss everybody!

Kylee: we are the international flower rescue team and garden stylists. :-D

Carol: I tried to make it as irresistable as possible and it worked! ;-) Glad you enjoyed yourself, I like to make people smile.

A woman who is: stayed tuned and thank you for your kind words! I appreciate it.

Libby: the pink bucket safes you,it seems that there is hope for you yet, otherwise you'd be out.(not really) LOL

Andrea: I had a pair of blue wellies too. They were the first I could find that were not dark green. I was very happy with them and so are you with yours. Those wheel barrows, how silly are they? :-) When I first saw them, they made me laugh, so I thought I should put them on my blog for you all to enjoy.

I like these various colourful wellies and garden helpers very much! It´s sad that we don´t have so much of these things but in future I will keep the eyes peeled for similar things.
I had to smile when you showed the wooden shoes because last year we´ve been in Amsterdam and we saw a lot of these shoes - but only for tourists :-)!
Nice greetings, Verena

What a selection of lovely gardening gear you have over there. We don't have near that amount, only seeing them here or there every once in a while. It certainly makes gardening more fun, especially tasks like weeding. How about cute sun hats?

A wildlife gardener said...

I'm for a pair of the poppy wellies....and gloves to match...and hopefully a matching skip hat too, to keep the sun out of my eyes when I'm gardening.

No, Yolanda, I think you'll have to cross me off your fashion list...try as I might to look good in the garden, by the end of the day I look as if I've rolled all through it! I've ruined anything decent, so I keep a bag of gardening tat to wear. And the hotter it gets the less I wear. Not a pretty sight!

I do love those wellies though.

Oh, my, what a lot of cute stuff... which I would never wear, Yolanda Elizabet... but it's lots of fun to look at. Sort of like Barbie clothes.

I do own one item in your collection - the folding, flowery cloth wheelbarrow, which was my prize from the Divas of the Dirt Christmas Grab bag. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it.

Thanks for keeping us clued in on the latest garden fashions, Yolanda. I'll let you know if I ever see anyone wearing any of those items!

Welcome to Bliss everybody,

Verena: you are right, those wooden shoes are for the tourists. ;-)

meresy_g: welcome and yes, fun clothes and tools make gardening that much more fun, even weeding.

wildlife gardener: that poppy ensemble sounds wonderful. It would be both stylish and practical, what more could a gardener ask for?

Birgit: Gummistiefel mit Rosen sounds wonderful. You do know that sometimes you have to treat yourself to something nice, don't you? ;-)

Ladyluz: last week there was an article about the naked gardener on Gardenrant, did you read it? Perhaps you could just wear stylish wellies and leave it at that? :-)

Annie: you got one of those wheelbarrows? Too funny!!!! Perhaps you could use it when deadheading or when you're cutting flowers for the vase? And could you please put a picture of it on your blog one of these days?

Lostroses: you're welcome! And please do. I wear wellies with roses, those knee pads with flowers and the flowery gloves are mine too.:-)

Ooh how candy sweet pretty! tee hee! *giggle*
I wear those green ones in the second picture. Out here in the bogs, they never heard of flowery boots. Anyway, they would get dirty so fast, you'd never see if they were pink or yellow.
I knew I'd see Carol's comment on here! *grin*

Have a look in my blog. I have nominated you for the Thinking Blog Award. Have a nice summer-evening. LG Birgit

Whoa! I love these boots in the first photo. So far, all we have locally at Nordstrom's are black with white polka dots, military camo, and heavy metal skull and bones! Eww. I'm scheming with my blog partner to order some rose printed boots for this summer, but, I wish I could locate some modern crazy colored ones instead of that traditional floral look. Let me know if they come up with a pair that the soles light up with LED's and blink everytime you take a step!

This is definately 'Mousie' material.
