You can't get up too early, if you have a garden. You must be early due yourself, if you get ahead of the bugs. I think, that, on the whole, it would be best to sit up all night, and sleep daytimes. Things appear to go on in the night in the garden uncommonly. It would be less trouble to stay up than it is to get up so early. Charles Dudley Warner, My Summer in the garden, 1871

Phew, Yolanda, you hadn't posted for such a long time that I was worried that you were unwell or something, so I was very pleased to see your latest post. What a lot of lovely, lovely blooms. All of mine are hanging their heads in the persistent rain we are having in the Uk. Perhaps I will see some lovely gardens when I come over to the Netherlands next week. Please keep blogging, I look forward to your posts!

Lovely, lovely flowers. I agree, quite unusual to see bergenia re-flowering in July especially.

Thanks again for participating in Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day and I appreciate the quote from the book selection for June-July for the Garden Bloggers' Book Club (www.gardenbloggersbookclub.blogspot.com).

You've got it all covered!

Wow, what a profusion of lovely blooms! That artichoke is stunning. I also like the borage, (grew a plant once)clematis, and dahlias.Dahlias were my father's favorite flower, I remember this huge purple one he grew, and the pompom ones. I'd really like to get around to growing some,

Corn and potatoes, everything, lovely garden.

I too was wondering where you had gotten too--that perhaps you and the Bliss team had gone for another well-deserved vacation. So glad to see your garden is blooming marvelously. I can smell the chocolate cosmos from here...I had it one year but the tuber didn't overwinter well, and I haven't seen it available locally since then.
You're right--we do have many plants in common, even across the miles. And may more that I'd love to try, too.

Oh dear Yolanda that is such a huge and impressive list!
Going down through your bloom list my eyes start complaining but my heart aches for more.
Your absence was sorely missed from the blogosphere, as there was an unusually long gap since the last post, from your standards.

A visit to your blog is always great fun. It is like an adventure wondering what next my eyes will see. Your corn is amazing - I love the Nicandra. And then there are the cats who I love to visit - Vita and Surprise. They are all adorable ...

Wow, your potager must be immense according to all the plants you listed. Just wonderful! Here the roses have a break at the moment. I'm longing for the second blossoming. Actually I am reading Charles Dudley Warners very wise and entertaining book "My Summer in the Garden".
Greetings from Switzerland.

I especially liked seeing the Achillea 'The Pearl'---rather unusual? The poppy is beautiful, too. Quite a wonderful variety of plants, and thanks for sharing so many photos. It's amazing to see how many plants we have in common from so many thousands of miles away!

Also, thank you for the tour of Piet Oudolf's garde---really a treat!

Hi Yolanda, nice to see you back. It is alright not to post at times. After all one shouldn't feel forced to do it, because it wouldn't be fun any longer. Love your snapdragons with a scent. We saw some bright orange ones yesterday in combination with purpe, blue and white and they looked breathtaking. Have a great week! Andrea

Wow, what an amazing choice of July flowers you shared with us, thanks a lot!

I love that blue borage in salats, for instance and I have even a white one. Well, I sowed it last summer and very surprisingly found it this year in some of my borders, too. The white one is a bit smaler, but of course pretty, too!

Is the weather in the Netherlands as hot as in Germany today? We have more than 35 °C and I just need a break from the heat...

Hi Yolanda,

It's fun to see your garden in mid-July - what an abundance of flowers you have, and how beautifully you've blended the colors.

Plants must change their demeanor when they go to the Netherlands - those often rowdy American wildflowers Joe Pye Weed and Goldenrod, for example. In your garden they go by their formal names of Eupatorium purpureum and Solidago, and seem to be behaving very well!

Wow... your list just kept going, YE! Lovely pictures, and I admit that I turned green with envy at the sight of your chocolate cosmos. I have planted 5 roots of chocolate cosmos this spring, and not a one of them has had the decency to show up. *sigh*

Molly said...

What a list! I've been looking for chocolate cosmos seeds, or even the plants, for a couple of years now and can't seem to get them here. I did find a packet of seeds in the Schiphol airport last year, but US customs confiscated them (along with all my other seeds!). Next time I won't make the mistake of declaring them. ;)

Great looking purple artichoke and impressive collection of flowers. I love that chocolate treat!

Wow! And double wow! I thought I had a lot going on, but you take the cake, Yolanda. Well worth the visit.

What a list! I kept scrolling and scrolling and getting more and more envious. I must start getting up earlier....

I was especially interested in your Verbena hastata, since I planted some this spring for the first time. Mine are just starting to bloom.

Te veel om op te noemen eigenlijk hè en het gaat maar door!
Er komt steeds meer bij, tenminste bij mij wel, t'is ook maar net wanneer je de meeste bloei wilt.

Your flowers are just lovely...you have several things blooming together that we have bloom at quite different times...your garden is really impressive!

I love the sweet peas and the arches. Do they grow over them or are the arches for some other flower? I've got to look into that chocolate cosmos? I love all cosmos, but that would be an extra treat. We use cocoa shell mulch and when we first put it down and water it, I must go in and bake brownies. :<)

I agree with what you wrote on my blog... from your photographs I can see that we are growing a lot of the same flowers. I like your gardens and your flowers are beautiful. Gorgeous cats, too!

You have a wonderful garden (and handsome cats!) I'm curious about the July weather where you are. Is it generally hot and dry or cooler and damp? (I'm not well versed in the climates of Europe.) Love your blog. I've got a friend from the Netherlands who needs to see it!
